When you always practice scales, picking, and music theory you will be bored. Avoid it and learn to play songs. Google for guitar tabs online, find your favorite guitar solo, and start to pick. For the first time it takes a lot of work. Memorizing is difficult: bend ups, hammer ons, picking, beat. You should take one beat after the next, try to remember, and repeat. It’s a hurdle, needs time, and patience. Some songs are difficult to play, other songs are easy. Mostly the first mentioned is difficult to learn. Keep in mind: practice, practice, practice, and get a clean sound.
My favorite songs are Canon Rock in D, No Boundaries by Michael Angelo Batio, I’m Alright, Rock’on. When you google, find the tabs online. There are a lot of videos, watch and compare them.
I recommend “Guitar Pro” and “Power Tab Editor”. They are used to read, listen, and practice tabs. The best way to learn accurate, is to play one by one with the software. Then you notice any small error. Slow down the tempo and start slow. You need a lot of patience, then it will sound good.
Also watch guitar videos, when you have trouble playing one or another song. See the results, see what could be done. Dream about it, see yourself playing, think you’ll play the same way once. Playing good and clean is a matter of practice, patience, and time.
